Ukraine Crisis - Update

As a result of the current situation in Ukraine, please note the below update.

Rail Europe is constantly monitoring the geopolitical situation in the countries it serves via its rail operator partners. Currently, there are no schedule changes on trains in western Europe; but some services might run busier than usual, as several rail operators are currently offering Ukrainian refugees free passage on their trains to reach safer destinations within Europe.

Please note, any change of flight itinerary due to avoidance of Russian airspace might result in an increase in flight time and may lead to schedule changes on flight from Asia or the Pacific. Please check with your air carrier to avoid inconveniences if you scheduled a flight-train connection.

At this stage, all European rail operators are maintaining their scheduled services and all regular after sales conditions apply. It is advised to purchase flexible tickets (tickets offering refund as per the fare conditions), in case of change in plan due to the current situation.

If you have confirmed seats, nothing changes with regards to your placement. You will be seated at your assigned seat. If you wish to modify your reservation, you can do so per the rules and conditions of the fare you purchased.

Attention: If you purchased non-refundable/non-exchangeable tickets, and are unable to travel, please be aware that the rail operators aren’t currently offering any exceptional gestures in relations to the Ukraine situation. Kindly refer to your travel insurer (if any) to claim reimbursement of the ticket cost.

We shall provide an update here, if anything changes.

For further queries, please don’t hesitate to contact us via our contact form, and our dedicated team will be happy to assist you.

Thank you for your understanding regarding this matter. Stay safe!

Disruptions

Thalys - Train cancellation

You were advised by Thalys that your train has been cancelled.

Refund: If you do not wish to travel due to train cancellation – You can contact us for refund by filling in this form to get refund.

Exchange: Thalys is offering free exchange in station only. If you would like to exchange the ticket for a different date/time, you have 2 options:

1. Exchange at the train station – This is the option you need to consider at the fist stage. You are already present in the departure city, your travel date is too close and it’s not possible to wait to process an exchange, you can visit the ticket counter at the departure train station and ask to exchange for free your ticket. Thalys closed the sales to help customers to travel on previous or next train booked but cancelled.

2. Exchange on the website – You can process an exchange on the website as per the Fare conditions for the same class of service booked. You can refer to our Help article here for the process. In case you are charged an exchange fee, you can get in touch with us via the contact us form to claim refund for the difference in cost.

Due to the backlog caused by train cancellation, there is a delay in receiving a reply from the rail carrier. Hence, it would take few weeks to receive refund.

Do not hesitate to contact us in case you are in connection with another train like Eurostar, as we will inform you about the best option to not loose tickets booked for connecting train.

If your Thalys train consists of a connecting journey, individual fare conditions would be applicable depending on the train booked for the previous/connecting journey as the the above policy is only applicable for cancelled Thalys trains.
